A person has been arrested after pictures had been fired within the check-in space of Canberra Airport in Australia.
The airport was evacuated and planes had been grounded for about three hours on Sunday afternoon as police recovered the firearm and checked the world.
There have been no accidents reported however footage from the scene confirmed bullet holes within the terminal’s glass panes.
Police stated the person arrested is “believed to be the one individual accountable”, though his motivation is unclear.
ACT Policing Detective Performing Superintendent Dave Craft stated the suspect had been sitting close to the glass home windows of the departures check-in space.
“After roughly 5 minutes this male has eliminated the firearm from his possession and let off roughly 5 rounds,” he stated.
“From what I can see from the crime scene, the male has let the pictures off on the glass inside the terminal.
“There have been no pictures directed at folks… clients or employees.”
‘The look on folks’s faces was fairly terrifying’
Lily Thomson, a reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corp, was on the airport and heard the pictures, realising one thing was incorrect when folks began screaming “run”.
“I noticed this grandma with a child and the concern in her face and I knew it was one thing severe,” she stated.
“So all of us ran and I stayed with that grandma and her child and hid behind an info desk. We stayed there for a few minutes till safety instructed us to evacuate out to the automotive park.
“Everybody was hiding behind chairs and other people had been operating.
“It was terrifying. We did not know what was occurring. The look on folks’s faces was fairly terrifying.”
